Break on through...

...to the other side. Hops that is. And please! Even though there were shoots from all three of my existing hills, not one single one of the little bastages had broken though the ground. I DID have a hop bud coming through the ground, but I worked some cow manure into the topsoil, and in the process that little nipper got covered again. I figured I'd let'er come up all on it's on. That way, it would appreciate it more.

I did water the hills though, and when I did that two of the hop shoots became exposed. I'm not sure, but the best I remember from the ones that came up last year (their first season) this year's looks a bit bigger around. I don't know if they actually were though, but hopefully I'll know more when they finally come up where I can see'em.

None of the other varieties that I have ordered have arrived yet. I guess the weather isn't quite right where they are digging them up, or some horse shit like that. I could have had them in the ground down here about a month ago or even a bit earlier. Oh well, when they start spreading like weeds I guess that just means I can prun'em back, dig'em up and sell'em, and get a month and a half jump on the other hop outlets.  :-)

Snapped a few pics of my birdfeeder today. I've been bombarded by Brown Headed Cow Birds. Amusing at first, but like a plague of locusts now. First there were 3 or 4. Next day, 20 or 30, next day 200 or 300. Obviously they can't keep their mouth shut and keep a secret, they just have to tell their friends. Wouldn't be so bad, but I got the expensive feed to help attract some of the more finiky birds that I get in the yard (and to elimenate a lot of waste because the cheap food is about 50% shit seeds that no birds in my area will eat). I'll just get a big bag of the cheap stuff and see how they like that. Maybe they'll invade one of the neighbors for a while. Or, maybe I'll just buy a nice bb gun since the feeder is only about 10 feet from my man room window.  :-)  Nah, I wouldn't do that...but shooting spitballs at them shouldn't be too inhumane, plus it sounds like a helluva lot of fun for me when coupled with a couple of pints of my homebrewed IPA methinks.

I'll post some of the pics later t'night or later this week, but if you're interested, you can catch live birdfeeder action for the foreseeable future on my webcam page.

That's all for now, gotta grab a pint and fire up the grill. Kabob night here at the brewery.
