Brew Review #2
This beer is brewed by the Stone Brewing Company in Escondido, San Diego County, California.
I first tasted this brute when a friend of mine brought me a bottle as a gift. What wonderful friends I have! Without that gift, I may have never known the pleasure of this fine concoction since both the ABV and the package size are forbidden here in the backwards bible belt known as Alabama. From the very first taste (actually after just reading the label!) I knew this would be a beer that I would love. Since making my own brews, I have fallen in love with the hop experience in a beer, and this brew lives up to that expectation!
The label starts out saying: "This is an aggressive beer. You probably won't like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar terriroty --- maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it's made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beer will give you more sex appeal.
Let me just say Stone Brewing, I'm definately a bastard enough to drink this stuff! I don't need a multimillion dollar ad campaign to tell me I'm sexy, just a couple of 22 oz bottles of this fine brew and I'm too fucking sexy for myself! :-) After about four of them, I'm bullet proof!
Ummm.....nothing but arrogance! Well, except for that big old bastard slap in the face! This Ale pours with a nice rocky, creamy head, and has a very deep rich reddish brown hue. There are both malty tones and a wonderful hop aroma in the nose of this fine brew. There is a deep malty taste to start, with the rich full malt hitting the tongue first. It's not a dark roasted malt taste, nor a sweet under attenuated malt taste...just a nice middle of the road taste, with the knob turned up to about 7 or 8. :-) In keeping with the malt presense, the hop taste is at high volume also, and there is ample bitterness to finish. This brew leaves a good balanced taste in the mouth with ample hop presense. One of my favorite brews! I'm gonna have to dig up a clone recipe of this beast and an equally arrogant name for it. :-)
If any of you stingy arrogant bastards out there want to send me a case or two of this shit, just drop me a line and I'll give you my shipping address. If you're worthy of sending it to me that is.
7.2% Alc. Vol, 22 0unce bottle of bastardness.
