Brew Review #5

Fiddler's Elbow

www.wychwood.com Fiddler's Elbow from Wychwood Brewery Witney, Oxfordshire, England.

This beer has a wonderful earthy hop and malt aroma, and a nice color. Not too dark, a pale ale color I'd say. The label says it has a "tart citric fruit" feel in the mouth. I wouldn't classify it as "citrus" like the Northern Pacific hops are (grapefruity, etc)...but the "citric" I would agree with. I'm getting the same mouth taste/feel as I do from Zima...or maybe Alka Seltzer, if that makes sense. Not so much a taste as such..but more of a dry sensation. Not long lasting, but definately there in the flavor profile to my tastebuds. (I should probably mention that Zima and Alka Seltzer aren't necessarily offensive to me eh?) This brew is cloudy...maybe it's not pasturised and filtered...THAT would be refreshing! Leave that shit in there brewers!  :-)

The brewers say this is hopped with Styrians hops, and I don't think I have tried them before knowingly...but I like the characteristics they impart to this beer.
