Brew Review #17

Stella Artois

Stella Artois...ah! Stella!http://www.stellaartois.com

A premium lager beer, billed on the bottle as Belgium's Original beer. This is a very light straw colored lager. It has an interesting aroma, almost floral I think. I just had about a half dozen or so tacos stuffed to the rim with jalapeno peppers and some Kick Ass peppercorn salsa...so my nose might be a bit off, heh heh.

What initially struck me with this beer was it's lack of carbonation. It has some bubbles, and isn't flat by any stretch of the imagination, but it certainly isn't as overly carbonated as most light lagers that I've tried, and it is actually refeshing to find a light lager that doesn't have to hide behind a bottle full of CO2. It had practically NO head to it, even when poured from way above the glass, so that could be a bit better I guess...we all like a little head don't we?  :-)

All in all, I guess this is a standard light lager, and being used to the over the top American hops of most of the ales I drink...I could easily say that it's on the drab side, but I'm feeling generous. I think this is a refreshing lager, with ample amounts of hop bitterness and malt flavors. Upon further reflection, there is also a nice grainy aroma and taste in the brew too, and I'm gonna give it a nice....
