Brew Review #19

Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA

My first impression upon pouring this brew was the aroma. Lots and lots of hop aroma, which is nice to see for a change!  :-) According to the 4 pack carrier, this is the "Best IPA in America" (Kerry J. Byrne, Esquire Magazine), and I can see why. The volumn is turned up on this one, with all knobs on 11. This beer has a bold in your face hop character from the American Cascade, Columbus and Chinook hops, and it also has enough malty mouthfeel and taste to compete well and balance out the beer. I don't usually like "imperial" beers...but this one is quite nice. Well, quite nice for a big monster beer anyway. I can see now why they came in a 4 pack! I'm still wondering why they cost over $2.50 per bottle though...but hey, what the hell do I know huh?

The description on the bottle says this "is an Imperial India Pale Ale featuring a single, contant 90-minute hop addition. It's balanced by a ridiculous amount of English Two-row Barley. Then we dry hop it in every tank"...I don't think that I can sum it up any better than the over paid marketing people that came up with that description. You earned your money on this one dickheads.

12 oz bottle, 9% ABV
