Brew Review #22

Wild Hop Lager by Green Valley Brewing

This is a golden lager, a touch darker than most of the commercial swill in color, but sadly not much more in aroma or flavor. While it is pleasant to look at, and might be quite refreshing on a hot summer's day, it is not one of my favorites. I guess there is something to be said for it being organic, but what that might be I don't know. If brews like Arrogant Bastard, Ruination IPA, Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA are "non-organic" then I think I much prefer that to "organic."

Surely growing a crop of barley and hops without any chemical additives does not mean that you have to use those organic ingredients to brew a beer without taste or character does it? I would hope not, but sadly this beer does not dispute that statement.

I'm afraid that "organic" in this context is nothing more than a marketing ploy. I'm sure there are fans of this style of beer, and hopefully they will find redeeming attributes in it that I didn't find, but this IS my freaking website you know!  :-)
